Hong Kong actress Lo Fun passed away

8 Feb - Hong Kong actress and TV personality Lo Fun has recently passed away.

In a statement released by her family, it was stated that she passed away from lung failure due to dermatomyositis - a rare connective-tissue disease characterised by inflammation of the muscles and skin, and that she might have contracted the disease while working in mainland China.

"We never imagine someone who is the happiest, most energetic, most healthiest like you would become ill with a rare and terrifying type of arthritis named dermatomyositis, that was caused by immune system imbalance," the statement read.

Her family added that Lo previously wanted to share her experience of having the disease with the public after her recovery, and that she never thought about giving up.

"Every time we saw you, you still had your smile. You would say, 'I am fine, I will fight it to the death! I am an actor, the director wants me to play this role...'. Well, the ten-month 'filming period' has ended, and you have already given your greatest, greatest effort to portray this role."

The family ended their statement by expressing their pride with her effort and that they will soon see each other in the next life.

Lo, who rose to fame in 1988 through "Women Prison", has starred in many movies and dramas, including "Hail the Judge", "Blind Detective", "Black Heart White Soul", and "Outbound Love".

She was 63.
