Home-based business opens 2nd waffle outlet selling smiling waffles
Waffle Aunty, a beloved snack kiosk that began as a home-based business, has expanded to a second outlet in Kovan, along Yio Chu Kang Road. Their original location in Pasir Ris’ Elias Mall gained a following for its signature Smiling Egglets, available in over 10 flavours.
These egglets range from simple options like Plain (S$1.50) to local favourites such as Kaya (from S$2). For something more indulgent, their Nian Gao Egglet, with a chewy mochi-like centre, is priced at S$2.50 each or S$12 for six.
In addition to the egglets, Waffle Aunty offers a unique take on Korean-style coin pancakes called Huat Cakes. These round pancakes are available for S$5 each in flavours like Biscoff, Cheese, Choco Banana, and Nian Gao. The “發” embossing, which means prosperity in Chinese, adds a local touch to these trendy snacks.
The kiosk’s menu also includes 2 types of waffles: Mini Temptations Waffles (from S$2) and Traditional Waffles (from S$3). The Mini Temptations Waffles feature small waffle rounds with toppings such as Hae Bee Hiam which is a very Singaporean twist on a truly Singaporean snack (waffle). The Traditional Waffles, on the other hand, offer a nostalgic experience with old-school pandan flavours.
While some might say that the egglets are gimmicky, I feel that just by writing this article and looking at it, it has already brightened up my day. It is really heartening to see how Waffle Aunty has turned from a home-based business to now having 2 outlets, changing the perception of a simple yet nostalgic waffle snack.
