HKFA Best Supporting Actress Kara Hui wants to help more newcomers

22 Apr – It was almost a no-brainer that Kara Hui would return home with another accolade, this time the HKFA Best Supporting Actress award.

As reported on Mingpao, the actress, who was nominated in the category for her role in the transgender film, "Tracey", shared that she is honoured and happy to be able to contribute to the Hong Kong film industry by supporting new filmmmakers like Jun Li - who helmed the said movie.

"It is not important that we earn less [by doing these movies]. There are all kinds of movies and newcomers have come forth in large nuumbers. It is my pleasure to be able to contribute. We, as seniors, should support the new generation," she said.

Kara also expressed hope that the Hong Kong film industry would return to its past glory like back when she started - when there were more than 400 films released per year.

This is the second time the actress - who has won multiple Best Actress awards - won Best Supporting Actress at the Hong Kong Film Awards. She previously won in 2014 for her role in "Rigor Mortis".

This is also Kara's second accolade for her role in "Tracey", having won similar award at the 13th Asian Film Awards last month.
