The Great Gerwig-directed film—which was released on July 21st—boasts a cast filled with big Hollywood names like Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Kate McKinnon, Will Ferrell, America Ferrera, Issa Rae, and Simu Liu. Closely trailing Barbie in second place is The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which has already brought in over $1,358,118,492 at the global box office. The 3D-animated adventure comedy stars award-winning actors including Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Pratt, Jack Black, and Seth Rogen. Catch the fun video game-inspired flick with the entire family!
Released during the same weekend as Barbie, Oppenheimer has also been performing well. It has brought in over $853.5 million so far. The film tells the story of the American physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer and his involvement in the making of the atomic bomb during World War II and stars Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, and Matt Damon.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3: $845,536,306
The most recent installment of Guardians of the Galaxy is having a great run and has raked in over $845 million. The action film features Chris Pratt, Chukwudi Iwuji, and Bradley Cooper.
Fast X: $704,709,660
The Fast and the Furious movies keep coming. This year’s installment is Fast X, an action-packed adventure movie centered around Vin Diesel’s character, Dom Toretto, and his family who is being targeted by a drug kingpin’s son. As expected, the film has a stacked cast of A-listers including Michelle Rodriguez, Jason Statham, Ludacris, and Helen Mirren.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse: $689,342,516
Spider-Man: Across the Universe comes in at sixth place with over $689 million in earnings. In the animated action film, Shameik Moore voices the character of Miles Morales and Hailee Steinfeld lends her voice to Gwen Stacy. The movie has already won three awards from the Hollywood Critics Association so it certainly deserves a spot on this list.
The Little Mermaid: $569,482,685
The Little Mermaid didn’t flounder at the box office—it's made more than $569 million since its release on May 26th. It’s a live-action version of the ‘80s animated favorite and stars Halle Bailey, Melissa McCarthy, Javier Bardem, and Daveed Diggs.
