Just as quickly as people congratulate you for being pregnant, they'll announce one more thing: Sleep now, because it's never happening again! That may be a teeny, tiny bit hyperbolic, but it underscores a serious truth - many parents struggle with getting their babies to sleep through the night.

So earlier this July, during an interview about Independence Day traditions, I was stunned when Home Town star Erin Napier said she'd found a fix that was a total gamechanger for her young daughter, Helen. It all came down to where the baby sleeps.

"Oh my gosh, you have to get a Snoo. They cost a lot, but they're so worth it," she said, when I told her I was expecting that fall. I had no idea what she was talking about, or even how it was spelled.

Turns out, it's a smart bassinet that can detect when the baby cries. It'll start to gently rock and play white noise that's similar to the sounds your child heard in the womb. If it sounds vaguely familiar, you may have heard of the pediatrician who designed it - Dr. Harvey Karp, the man behind The Happiest Baby On The Block - so it's backed up by his research and experience caring for children. (And no, she wasn't kidding about the cost: At $1,160, it's a bit steeper than most bassinets on the market. But for some parents, the extra zzz's may be worth the extra $$$.)

The Snoo claims to boost a baby's sleep time during the night by 1-2 hours, and after trying it with Helen, Erin's a believer. "It's one of the best inventions ever," she gushed. (And no, she's not getting paid to say that.) "It makes putting the baby back to sleep almost instantaneous, and you know they're safe. I had no fear of SIDs, which is awesome for a worry wart like me."

Helen's been sleeping through the night since she was six weeks old, Erin said, and when it came to late-night feedings, she and husband Ben Napier approached the task as a team.

"When we were feeding her every two hours, we were always up together," Erin said. "Some friends thought we were crazy, but that worked for us - we've found we're always better together. ... Ben's always been around kids, and I have a small family, so he's been a great source of support."
