  • Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have chosen to keep Archie’s godparents private, meaning that the public doesn’t know who they are.

  • However, we have a few guesses....

Your royal faves Meghan Markle and Prince Harry christened their first son Archie Harrison yesterday, but not before causing some drama with the way they went about doing things. Not only did they keep the ceremony private and not allow photographers on the premises (unlike basically all other major royal christening), but they also decided to keep the identities of Archie’s godparent’s a secret as they’re reportedly “private citizens” (aka not public figures or celebrities) and “both they and Harry and Meghan don’t wish their names to be made public.”

And even though it seems like the palace won’t confirm or deny anything about Archie’s godparents, that doesn’t mean that we can’t speculate about who they might be-so that’s exactly what we’re going to do, friends. And reminder that royal babies get, like, five to seven godparents, so many people could have received this honor.

So first things first-we know that the godparents were at the ceremony yesterday, as Meg and Harry’s Instagram account shared, “Their Royal Highnesses feel fortunate to have enjoyed this day with family and the godparents of Archie.” So who was at the ceremony that could be considered a potential godparent? The Daily Mail reports Harry’s former nanny Tiggy Legge Bourke. Here’s Tiggy at Harry and Meg’s wedding:

It’s also being suspected that Harry’s childhood friend Charlie van Straubenzee is one of the godparents-after all, Harry was best man at his wedding in August. Here’s Charlie (right) at Harry and Meg’s wedding:

Sources “close to the couple” also think that Izzy May, a former publicist for Soho House and Markus Anderson, Soho House director, are godparents. You may recall that Harry and Meghan took a secret trip to Amsterdam last year to celebrate the opening of one of Soho House’s new locations-and even missed a friends wedding for it-so their ties with the members-only club obviously run deep. And if it’s true that the godparents aren’t public figures, then we can rule out Meg’s close friends Serena Williams (who wasn’t able to attend the christening) and Priyanka Chopra. We should also note that Meghan was seen at Wimbledon with her friends and fellow Northwestern alums Genevieve Hillis and Lindsay Roth on Friday, and they were invited to Archie’s christening, meaning that it’s possible that they’re godparents as well.
