Han Solo movie: Paul Bettany joins the cast

He’s a fine, fine actor, and Paul Bettany has now signed up for his second major franchise. Director Ron Howard announced today that the critically acclaimed star is joining the Han Solo movie, reportedly as a replacement for Michael K. Williams.

The 46-year-old, who was the voice of J.A.R.V.I.S. and now plays The Vision in The Avengers franchise, retweeted Howard’s message and said: “It’s a dream come true.” Bettany is reportedly a beneficiary of the extensive reshoots that resulted from Howard replacing directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller deep into production on Han Solo.

According to Slashfilm, Bettany is a replacement for Michael K. Williams, who had to drop out of the movie due to scheduling conflicts with reshoots. It added that Howard wanted a reliable actor whom he has worked with before – Bettany has worked with him on the likes of A Beautiful Mind and The Da Vinci Code.

There are no real details on his character yet, but we met Bettany at AsiaPOP Comicon in Manila back in 2015 and like him a lot. His wife Jennifer Connelly is also a part of the MCU, having appeared briefly in Spider-Man: Homecoming (see our review).

The untitled Han Solo film is scheduled for release on May 25, 2018.
