Gwyneth Paltrow's ski trial is becoming a TV docuseries
Earlier this year, it seemed the whole world was laser-focused on one particular court case: that of Gwyneth Paltrow, who went on trial for allegedly skiing into retired optometrist, Terry Sanderson, in Deer Valley, Utah.
Now, the story that gripped headlines is set to be turned into a documentary, called Gwyneth vs. Terry: The Ski Crash Trial. Here's everything we know so far about the series, including its release date and how to watch it.
What is Gwyneth vs. Terry: The Ski Crash Trial about?
The docuseries will be based on Paltrow being sued by – and then counter-suing – Terry Sanderson, after the duo collided on a Utah ski slope in 2016, leaving Sanderson to claim he had been left to suffer physical injuries and emotional distress. Paltrow was found not guilty by a jury in March.
The trial, which took place in early 2023, was talked about non-stop on social media, with details dissected (who skied into whom) and countless memes spawned (the most notable riffing off Paltrow's complaint that she "lost half a day of skiing" and her parting line to Sanders, "I wish you well").
And that's not to mention the way the trial has been credited for popularising the 'quiet luxury' movement, thanks to Paltrow's enviable, muted-but-fabulous courtroom wardrobe, full of creamy cashmere, chunky gold jewellery and soft leather from The Row, Prada and her own label, Goop. We can expect all of this, and more, to be highlighted in the forthcoming series.
Who is making Gwyneth vs. Terry: The Ski Crash Trial?
Production company Optomen (who are behind other celebrity courtroom drama series including Johnny vs Amber and Kim vs Kanye: The Divorce) are continuing their 'Vs' series for Discovery+ with the two-part documentary. It's said there's also a series in the works on Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz's wedding drama, called Peltz-Beckham vs The Wedding Planners (another one we'll be adding to our must-watch list).
When will Gwyneth vs. Terry: The Ski Crash Trial be released, and how can I watch it?
The documentary is set to drop on Discovery+ (an American streaming service owned by Warner Bros.) later this year, although an exact release date has yet to be revealed. In the meantime, mark your calendars for the upcoming Lessons In Chemistry TV adaptation, as well as Fifteen-Love, a drama set in the world of competitive tennis and starring Poldark's Aidan Turner.
