Gulinazha admits still embarrassed by MAMA incident

2 Sep - Chinese actress Gulinazha (Gulnezer Bextiyar) recently admitted that she still feels embarrassed every time she is reminded of the blunder she made at an award event five years ago.

It was back in 2019 when the Uyghur actress was invited to present an award at the Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) in South Korea. While presenting the Best Female Solo Dance Performance award alongside actor Lee Soo-hyuk, Gulinazha, who wasn't very proficient in English, slowly read the card in English and announced Korean singer Chungha's name as the winner.

However, her pronunciation of Chungha's name as the Chinese "Qiong-Ha", caused a little confusion on both viewers and the winner herself. The clip went viral in mainland China, with netizens calling it the "Qiongha Incident".

Speaking about the incident on Hunan TV's variety show, "Random Tour", she said, "Although it has already passed, it was embarrassing at the time. I felt so embarrassed."

"I didn't feel anything on stage at the time, but then it really made me embarrassed when I saw the trending search. It was so horrifying that I didn't want to go back to the crew," she expressed.
