"The Grudge" reboot casts "The Nun" star as lead

"The Grudge" reboot will have a new and different storyline from the 2004 version.

16 Mar – Demián Bichir, who will be seen in "The Nun" this year, has landed a role in another horror franchise.

Bichir and English actress Andrea Riseborough will star in "The Grudge" reboot in undisclosed roles, Variety reports.

The two actors are among the first to be confirmed for the reboot of the Japanese horror classic, set to be helmed by Nicolas Pesce, who will be directing from his own script.

Bichir is an Academy Award nominated Mexican-American actor recently seen in "Alien: Covenant" and will be seen next in the aforementioned "The Conjuring 2" spin-off this fall.

Riseborough, on the other hand, starred in the Academy Award winning 2014 movie "Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)" alongside Michael Keaton and will star in three movies this year, namely "Mandy", "Nancy", and "Burden".

Demián Bichir and Andrea Riseborough will star in "The Grudge" reboot.

This new version of "The Grudge" will act as a reboot of the 2004 American horror movie of the same name, which starred Sarah Michelle Gellar, that raked in over USD187 million in the box office.

"The Grudge" series is based on the Japanese horror franchise called "Ju-on", which was a massive hit in the genre and started the Hollywood trend of remaking Japanese horror movies including 2002's "The Ring".
