Gremlins' TV prequel series has just had a sizeable update, announcing actors from Killing Eve and the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the cast.

Subtitled Secrets of the Mogwai, the animated series was a part of San Diego Comic-Con, where Killing Eve and Grey's Anatomy actress Sandra Oh and Ant-Man and the Wasp and WandaVision's Randall Park were revealed as guest stars.

But they aren't the only newly-unveiled guest cast members. We've also got Star Trek legend George Takei, Saturday Night Live and Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens' Bowen Yang, and Zach Galligan, who played Billy Peltzer in the original two films.

"I can't say too much but because it's [set in] 1920s China. I'm not playing Billy because he wasn't around," Galligan told the audience at Comic-Con (via Deadline).

"So I'm playing this cool character. It was really fun and amazing to work with a new group of creative people who are taking a fresh look at the franchise and are expanding the mythology – who knows what they're going to add. Maybe they'll add a new transformation or a new rule we don't know about yet... I think Gremlins fans are going to eat it up."

The show has already announced its main cast members, consisting of recognisable Asian American names like BD Wong, Ming-Na Wen and James Hong.

As Galligan noted, the show takes place in China years before the film. It follows Mr Wing, back when he was known as Sam and first met Gizmo.

Together with a street thief named Elle, they fight against monsters from Chinese mythology and an evil industrialist.

Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai is expected to premiere in the US on HBO Max next year, and on Cartoon Network after that.
