Great Outfits in Fashion History: Sarah Jessica Parker's Sultry Take on the LBD

There are perfectly good celebrity style moments, and then there are the looks that really stick with you, the ones you try desperately to recreate at home. In 'Great Outfits in Fashion History,' Fashionista editors are revisiting their all-time favorite lewks.

As closely compared as Sarah Jessica Parker's sartorial choices are to her those of her character Carrie Bradshaw, there have been moments where the actor has very clearly departed from her on-screen persona. A great example is her look for the 2003 Tony Awards: a sultry black (Tom Ford-era) Gucci dress — a far cry from Carrie's tulle, florals and mixed prints.

The halter-neck number takes a unique approach to cutouts, with its sheer sequined panels at the bodice and skirt sculpturally outlined by solid black ones. Accessories-wise, Parker opted for minimalism, with her décolletage left bare and her ears accented by small diamond earrings. (No outlandish Carrie-inspired hat in sight.) As for shoes, she donned a pair of classic black pointed-toe pumps.
