CEO Dylan Howard reportedly told Grazia USA staff Monday that the American offshoot of the European title is closing, effective immediately, according to Lauren Sherman in Puck's Line Sheet.

Grazia is a magazine giant in Italy, but the U.S. title had a rocky run. Set up through a licensing agreement between Mondadori (the publishing house that runs the magazine) and Howard's Pantheon Media Group, it launched in early 2021 with David Thielebeule as editor-in-chief and chief creative officer. He left about a year later, and was replaced by Marie Claire alum Joseph "J." Errico. (The publication also had layoffs around this time.)

It never really took off stateside. Plus, Howard's leadership was preceded by a scandalous reputation involving Donald Trump, Harvey Weinstein and The National Enquirer. Sherman, a veteran fashion journalist and Fashionista alum, wrote: "Grazia was perhaps doomed from the start, given Howard's Trumpy reputation and lack of familiarity with Grazia as a brand—why it works in Europe and why it probably wouldn't work here. Grazia, after all, is essentially a walking-city magazine, if that makes any sense."

Per Line Sheet, Howard told staff that Mondadori didn't renew its license with Pantheon. Neither Mondadori nor Grazia USA have shared an official statement, and neither immediately replied to Fashionista's request for comment.
