One of the most anticipated action flicks of the summer has just landed on your favorite streaming service. The Gray Man hit Netflix on July 22. Based on the book by Mark Greaney, the movie is directed by The Russo Brothers (Avengers: Infinity War, Endgame) and stars their favorite avenger, Chris Evans, along with Ryan Gosling and Ana de Armas.

Gosling and Evans play highly trained killers that end up in a globe-spanning game of cat and mouse. But if you're on this post it's because you already know that. You've watched it—along with heaps of others, The Gray Man is currently the No. 1 most-watched movie on Netflix—and you're wondering if there will be more. Well, you're in luck, we've got intel. Read on below.

Is a Gray Man Sequel Happening?

Yes! Though we shouldn't be surprised. Even before the film landed well with streamers, the Russo Brothers made it clear that they never felt the story in The Gray Man was limited to one movie.

Back in December 2020 Joe Russo detailed his vision for an action franchise at a CCXP event. "Were not gonna answer every question in the first movie," he said. "This is being conceived as a series of films, and again, potentially branching out, we could follow other characters, but we're not gonna answer every question in the movie."

On Tuesday, Netflix confirmed that a sequel, with Ryan Gosling, the Russo Brothers, and co-writer Stephen McFeely had been greenlit and was in the works.

Speaking to Deadline, Joe Russo confirmed that the next movie would still draw it's plot from Greaney's books. "We have an incredible amount of source material from an amazing offer," he said.

What About a Gray Man Spinoff?

Yes as well! Also on Tuesday, the streamer announced that a spinoff had also been put into development and that screenwriters Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, the scribes behind Deadpool and Zombieland, were attached.

As for where this plot will head, the directors say to expect something a little different. In that same Deadline interview, Joe Russo explained, saying, "We’re going to do something a little more edgy and experimental with that." He expects a leveled-up rating to follow: "It means that one will be a hard R. Can’t say more at this point."
