Gourmetz: 9-dish Chinese lion motif box for an abundant CNY reunion dinner
When it comes to Chinese New Year reunion dinners, it’s all about making it a special and fun occasion with family and friends. This year, make it extra memorable with Gourmetz’s 2025 Prosperity Edition Crave Case. In addition to being absolutely adorable, it’s also incredibly convenient, making it the perfect addition to small, intimate gatherings.
Gourmetz is one of Singapore’s leading catering companies, dedicated to providing exceptional culinary delights and experiences for a large range of occasions. They offer diverse menu options that can satisfy different tastes, as well as reliable service and convenience.
Gourmetz is also recognised as a Healthier Choice caterer by the Health Promotion Board’s Healthier Dining Programme, and they’re also halal-certified.
For Chinese New Year, Gourmetz has unveiled the 2025 Prosperity Edition Crave Case set, which features a selection of curated dishes packaged in one convenient and eye-catching package.
Decked out in auspicious colours and a striking lion motif, the Crave Case is sure to elicit delight from guests.
The tiered design and inner compartments ensure easy transportation of multiple dishes while keeping the presentation intact for the grand reveal. Each tier is also separated by a plastic cover to ensure that the food does not come into contact with the underside of the compartment above it.
What I tried from Gourmetz
The Prosperity Edition Crave Case includes a total of 9 different dishes, including dessert, yu sheng, and soup.
We began with the Abundant Wealth Yu Sheng with Jade Abalone, a dish full of colour from various shredded vegetables and then topped with abalone. This was the first time I’d seen purple cabbage in a yu sheng.
We tossed up the yu sheng, and it became a spectacular rainbow of flavours. Crunchy and refreshing, no reunion dinner would be complete without it.
For the main dish, you’re given a choice of either 5 Treasure Fried Rice, or Fortune Harvest Noodles. We had the former, and it came topped with scallops, shrimp, egg floss, chicken char siew and edamame.
The fried rice was fragrant and well-seasoned without being too salty, while each grain was fluffy and had a good bite. The toppings also added to the enjoyment of the rice with the varied textures and flavours – I had to stop myself from stealing all the edamame.
Contained in another tier were the Fish Fillet with Tien Tien Mi Mi Sauce (Sweet Pineapple), and Cantonese Style Chinese Cashew Prawn.
The Tien Tien Mi Mi Sauce is best described as a sweet and sour styled sauce, with a more fruity note and sweeter than a standard sweet and sour. It coated each piece of fried fish evenly, ensuring each bite was balanced, and it paired great with the fried rice.
The prawns were plump and crunchy, and I couldn’t resist picking out as much cashew as I could without getting caught so I could pair it with the prawns.
The next tier contained Golden Whole Chicken with Crispy Garlic and Imperial Jade Vegetables Medley.
Garlic lovers (like me!) will not be disappointed – we could barely see the chicken underneath the thick blanket of crispy fried garlic. Fragrant and savoury, this dish was one of the favourites at the table.
The Imperial Jade Vegetables Medley is a tasty and healthful mix of celery, yam, pumpkin, mushroom and carrot. This provided a nice variety of textures and flavours, and kept each bite interesting.
Served separately in a large container, the Chicken Soup with Shiitake Mushroom & Bamboo Fungus was a light, palate-cleansing broth that was generously flavoured with ginger and the natural goodness of chicken and mushroom. I thoroughly enjoyed this one.
In the last tier of the box, we had the Fortune Mahjong Tiles, which were essentially glutinous rice kueh with a layer of gula melaka on top.
These little squares were a delight – coconutty and not too sweet, with the distinctive taste of gula melaka and a chewy texture.
The other sweet treat, the Mango Pomelo Sago with Snake Tang Yuan, was packaged separately in another large container. The sweetness levels were just right, and the flavour of mango permeated the dessert. The tang yuan here are the unfilled variety with a delightful chew.
In addition to the contents of the Crave Case, we also tried 2 of Gourmetz’s à la carte specials for the season.
The Big Fortune 4 (S$58.88) is a case containing 4 large squares of traditional delights: Nien Gao, Mei Doh, Pumpkin Cake, and Yam Cake. It’s hard to choose, but my personal favourite out of these is the Pumpkin Cake, but that’s only because I like pumpkin a lot.
Last but not least, we had the Signature Roast Duck (S$68), which consists of a whole roasted duck with a chef’s special sauce.
The duck was sliced into neat pieces which made it very convenient for us to help ourselves to the tender, moist meat. The sauce was also flavourful and complemented the duck well.
