Say goodbye to disposable sweeper pads and hello to this easy, DIY, reusable option!

Floor dusters and sweepers are great for collecting dust and dirt from your floors. However, disposable pads create a lot of trash, and the cost of regular replacements can quickly add up.

So, say goodbye to disposables and opt for a reusable option. All you need is a microfiber cloth or an old sock (ideally a clean one!). It really is that simple. Both of these fit on the sweeper's head and pick up dust, pet hair and other dirt around your home. You can also use them to dust surfaces like your nightstand, TV or ceiling fan.

Watch this video to see how easy it is to make a floor sweeper pad at home.

Reusable floor cleaner

A microfiber cloth works the same way as a disposable pad. Just wrap it around the head of the sweeper and secure it. Make sure the rough side of the cloth is on the outside. The static in the microfiber cloth helps collect, trap and lock dirt. If you need more static, just rub the cloth together before putting it on the sweeper.

If you use an old sock, just slide it over the sweeper's head. It's amazing how well it fits!

Once the sock or cloth is on, it's ready to hit the floor!

When you're done cleaning, toss the cloth or sock in the laundry, and avoid using fabric softener or dryer sheets.

Homemade cleaning solution with vinegar

A DIY cleaning solution can help your floors shine. Just spray it on the cloth before you begin sweeping.

To make a homemade cleaning solution, combine:

  • Water.

  • Vinegar.

  • Essential oils.

Pour the cleaner into a spray bottle and spray it on the cloth. Always check that the ingredients are safe to use on your flooring before using them.

Add a drop of dish soap to your homemade cleaner for dirtier laminate floors.

For hardwood floors, add a drop of olive oil to keep the floors conditioned.
