Gong Li in talks to play a coach in Peter Chan's new sports film
22 May – Award-winning actress Gong Li recently admitted that she has been approached to star in Peter Chan's upcoming sports film, according to Mingpao.
The actress, who spoke to the mainland media at the Cannes Film Festival recently, shared that she may be playing the role of a coach to the women's national volleyball team in the said movie, and is currently discussing the script with Peter.
"I am honoured to be offered the role of Coach Lang Ping, though I am worried that I might not be able to do the role justice," she said, adding that she has never done a sports film before.
However, Gong stated that she will make sure to familiarise herself with the sports as soon as she joins the team.
"I want to challenge myself with characters I never played before," she added.
When asked if she has plans to direct a movie herself, Gong gave the reporter a firm no, saying, "Being a good actor is enough for me in this lifetime."
