New Goldfish Spicy Dill Pickle Flavor Debuts By Popular Demand

Over the last few years, so many major food brands have released pickle-flavored products that it could be a really fun party game to try to name them all. Okay, “really fun” is subjective, we know. There’s Heinz Pickle Ketchup. Frank’s RedHot Dill Pickle hot sauce. Spritz Society Pickle Spritz by Claussen. Dill Pickle Slim Jims. Grillo’s x Two Robbers pickle-flavored hard seltzer. Hidden Valley Pickle Ranch. Trader Joe’s “Perfectly Pickled Pups” corn dogs. Casey’s Dill Pickle Pretzel Twists.

But even with all that briny market saturation, there are snacks that have yet to be pickle-ified — the most promising of which might be Goldfish crackers, which just announced a new Spicy Dill Pickle flavor hitting grocery store shelves for a limited time this June.

“Consumer passion for new Goldfish flavors is a constant source of inspiration," said Janda Lukin, SVP and CMO of Campbell’s Snacks, in a press release. "Overwhelming demand, from social media buzz to petitions, fueled the creation of our new Spicy Dill Pickle flavor.” The announcement also references viral social media posts calling for the creation of pickle-flavored Goldfish, and it cites data on both the rising consumer demand for pickle flavoring and our increased appetite for spice. The new crackers “deliver on flavor and fandom,” the release says.

Goldfish’s Spicy Dill Pickle flavor is rolling out purely because of popular demand, meaning it’s not a brand collaboration (like the Old Bay Goldfish). And it’s only the second time that a limited-time flavor has lacked any co-branding.

Notably, the company is rolling out Spicy Dill Pickle crackers purely by popular demand, which is to say, they’re not being released with a brand partnership. This is particularly unusual for Goldfish; indeed, the press release says it’s only the second time that a limited-time flavor has lacked any co-branding. Many popular Goldfish flavors in recent years, including Old Bay, Frank’s RedHot, and Dunkin’ Pumpkin Spice Grahams, were created in partnership with other brands (obviously). And corporations like Disney regularly team up with Goldfish to release promotional shapes such as Mickey Mouse and Star Wars.

A recent survey by investment banking firm Piper Sandler found that among Gen Z teenagers, the Goldfish brand still has serious cachet, with three times as many respondents listing Goldfish crackers as a preferred snack as Takis. It makes sense, then, that Goldfish would be expanding its product line to include new, exciting, and limited-time-only flavors for customers to get their hands on — especially because the Piper Sandler study also noted that 24% of male teen respondents listed food as their main category of discretionary spending.

Goldfish has recently appealed to millennials with new products, too. Both Goldfish Mega Bites (super-sized crackers) and Goldfish Crisps (a cracker/potato chip hybrid) were designed to “satisfy snackers of every age.”

“We’re at the start of a new chapter for the brand and are expanding our offerings to appeal to all age groups — in the college dorm, snacking at your desk, wherever that is these days — while remaining a snack for all families,” Lukin said in 2022. “We’re excited to keep creating bold and playful snacks and experiences.”

The new Goldfish Spicy Dill Pickle crackers hit national retailers this month, and the bright green bag will be easy to spot. Its suggested retail price is $3.69.
