"The Golden Hairpin" to finally see light of day after recasting Kris Wu's role

16 Oct - After being in a post-production limbo for the past few years, it was revealed that the Yang Zi-starrer, "The Golden Hairpin" will finally be airing on the small screen.

As reported on NetEase, sources are saying that the costume drama has passed all official approvals after multiple reshoots and other post-remedial work, and has already received its airing schedule.

Sources claimed that the drama will be premiering on China's CCTV-8 at the end of the month.

According to previous information, the new edited version still has 60 episodes with 45 minutes runtime for every episode. It has also made some cuts in the plot, giving Yang Zi more screen time than the original version.

It is noted that "The Golden Hairpin" completed filming in 2020 and cost RMB 400 million to produce. However, the drama experienced a setback as a result of the sexual assault case concerning its lead actor Kris Wu, which led to his imprisonment.

The drama then went on to find a new actor to replace Kris, turning first to Lin Gengxin before finally casting Peng Guanying as the character Li Shubai.

Adapted from the novel by Ce Ce Qing Han, the story revolves around Huang Zixia (Yang Zi) who is determined to find the killer of her family and to clear her name after being accused of murdering them to escape an arranged marriage.
