Godzilla bursts out of Hollywood cinema

Movie fans in Los Angeles are in for a shock if they're heading to the multiplex this weekend.

The Arclight in Hollywood – along with Warner Bros – has installed a really rather impressive, traffic-stopping model of Godzilla bursting from its dome-roof.

Roaring into the skies, it's quite the statement piece.

It is, of course, a stunt to promote the new movie in the reinvigorated Godzilla series, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, due out at the end of the month.

Box office analysts reckon it could bust out a $50 million plus on its debut weekend in the US alone, and while Endgame numbers have put everything else in the shade, that's still likely to be a decent turnout.

It's the third movie in the Warner Bros 'MonsterVerse', which began with Godzilla in 2014, and was followed by the world-merging Kong: Skull Island in 2017.

And this time, there will be a glut of monsters filling the screen.

As well as Godzilla, there will be the giant moth Mothra, the pteranodon Rhodan and the three-headed beast King Ghidorah.

On the human side of things, hoping that the scrapping beasts don't bring the apocalypse with them, are Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown, Sally Hawkins, Charles Dance and Ken Watanabe.

Helmed by Krampus director Michael Dougherty, it lands nationwide on May 31.
