Just over two hours north of New York City, tucked along the Hudson River, is a ranch that has long been in the habit of welcoming travelers looking to commune with nature. The modern-day homestead and glamping destination, known simply as Gatherwild, has become an escape for city dwellers, with safari-style glamping tents, A-frame cabins, and quaint guest houses.

The standout feature of Gatherwild is not the lodging, but the feel of living off of and in communion with the land. The property, which was once an apple orchard, relies on regenerative agricultural practices that improve soil health and support the natural ecosystem. Guest food scraps and waste from the chicken coop are composted, while resident, free-roaming goats clear invasive species.

In April, Gatherwild launched new lodging options and a slate of new amenities. The list included a tropics-inspired bathhouse built from locally milled wood and a vintage Shasta camper (with a restored original interior) that was finished using reclaimed materials. Cold plunge tubs and a cedar-lined sauna rounded out the property’s wellness offerings and a new rooftop deck, positioned for sunset views, was built above the property’s shared outdoor kitchen.

As Earth-minded as Gatherwild is, it remains upscale and design-forward, with creative and luxurious touches throughout. The A-frame cabin was designed and built by an artist, with visually stunning touches and a private rooftop deck. The Guest House is a renovated offset of the property’s 1850s farmhouse and The Pink House, which sits in the valley of the apple orchard, has a private sun deck and hammock.

Gatherwild’s four glamping tents offer private sunbathing decks and unobstructed views over the orchard. And finally, the vintage Shasta camper, the newest offering at Gatherwild, has a working propane stove, two full-sized beds, and a seating area.

Accommodations also have their own private outdoor space so guests can spend as much time as possible outside. A picnic table, fire pit, and Adirondack chairs bring meals and happy hours outside, while solar lights provide ambiance — that is until the stars come out.

Added perks at Gatherwild include a series of meandering paths for exploring, a pond with ducks, two roaming goats (Alabaster and Big Poppa), shady hammocks, and loaner bikes. Every morning guests can meet at the chicken coop to help collect the day’s eggs.

Gatherwild is located in Germantown, New York, a village that’s just a mile down the road from the ranch. Rates start at $195 a night.
