Giorgio Armani is 80 - a look back at his menswear work through film

The Italian designer celebrates a milestone birthday Friday. As the living legend turns 80 today, just days after his Armani Privé haute couture show in Paris, we take a look at a lesser known side to his work, the costumes and suits he's created for some of Hollywood's biggest ever movies, which look just as stylish today.

American Gigolo
Paul Schrader's classic 1980 thriller opens with sex symbol Richard Gere pulling out his stunning Armani suit-stuffed wardrobe and lining up some outfits to Smokey Robinson & The Miracles' "The Love I Saw in You Was Just a Mirage."

The Untouchables
The 1987 film starred Kevin Costner who appears in this courtroom drama in a classic Armani pinstripe suit. Even when chanelling the 1930s, everything from the perfectly starched, long collar on the shirt, to the single Windsor-patterned tie and the reinforced shoulders is classic Armani.

The Dark Knight
Christopher Nolan's 2008 follow-up to "Batman Begins" was the second in his trilogy of Dark Knight films which saw the DC franchise reinvigorated with a dark modernist aesthetic and cerebral story arcs. Armani made sure the costumes didn't let everything down, dressing Christian Bale's character, Bruce Wayne in power suits fit for a billionaire.
