Giddens Ko: Kai Ko and Kent Tsai are different people!

27 Apr - Although many acknowledged him as the person who made Kai Ko's career, Giddens Ko doesn't think he is deliberately helping another newcomer to rise to greater heights through his new movie.

As reported on Mingpao, the Taiwanese director, who is back with a new movie, "Mon Mon Mon Monsters!", shared that he is unsure whether his new lead actor Kent Tsai will have similar success as Kai Ko did - the latter, who made his debut through Giddens' "You Are The Apple Of My Eye" back in 2011.

"Kai Ko was a genius. Although I thought I was the one who brought him stardom, I finally realised now that he and Michelle Chen who were the ones that brought me to the sky," he said.

Admitting he dislikes the notion: "Kent Tsai is the new Kai Ko", Giddens said that nobody can replace one actor with another.

"They belong to the same company. They can learn from each other," he said.

When asked why he chose to cast newcomers in the movie rather than experienced ones, Giddens said that it was hard to find actors of the right age to play high school students.

"With new actors, even if I ask them to repeat their performance, they would not say no. I wouldn't feel bad about it either," he added.
