Influential feminist Germaine Greer isn’t afraid of ruffling feathers with her comments, but it appears she’s about to stir one very loyal fanbase: the Beyhive.

As part of an upcoming  BBC2 documentary about her life, titled ‘Germaine Bloody Greer’, the feminist author reportedly takes aim at revealing stage outfits worn by female singers.

Citing the multi-award winning Beyoncé, Greer didn’t mince her words.

“Someone like Beyoncé – who I think is a fantastic musician, a beautiful voice as true as a bell – why has she always got to be f***ing naked and have her t**s hanging out? Why?”

The 79-year-old went on: “I’m not saying you have to keep your clothes on, but why is sexual display part of the job? I might as well ask that question to a barmaid who says she doesn’t get any tips if she doesn’t show cleavage.”

Greer also took aim at female athletes who wear minimal clothing when competing.

“Why do women athletes have to be naked? I watched bloody figure skating and the woman is virtually naked. She has got a few wisps of cloth and the man is in evening dress.

She finished: “You think nakedness is usually a sign of submission, it’s a sign of inequality.”

Of course, this isn’t the first time Greer has made controversial statements.

Recently, she predicted a grim future for the new Duke and Duchess of Sussex, while most controversially, she criticised the “whingeing” #MeToo movement.

In an interview with Australian media, Greer said she had “always wanted to see women react immediately” when faced with sexual abuse or harassment.

“In the old days,” she went on, “there were movies – the Carry On comedies, for example – which always had a man leering after women. And the women always outwitted him – he was a fool. We weren’t afraid of him and we weren’t afraid to slap him down.”

Referencing the many Harvey Weinstein allegations, Greer said that “if you spread your legs because he said ‘be nice to me and I’ll give you a job in a movie’ then I’m afraid that’s tantamount to consent, and it’s too late now to start whingeing about that”.

Speaking about the result of the Me Too movement, she said: “It’s going to be the OJ Simpson trial all over again in spades, it will go on and on, and it will pit woman against woman. And I’m really concerned that the women who have given testimony now will be taken to pieces,” according to “Because power is power, ultimately, and the people protesting are people who don’t have the power.”

Recently Greer was named the Australian of the Year in the UK.
