GEM Tang starts a blog about her life

24 Sep – As everybody was staying home during the Typhoon Mangkhut, Hong Kong singer GEM Tang recently decided to start blogging and sharing her thoughts in writing through her blog on Medium.

The singer, who shared her newfound love of writing on social media, revealed that everything she writes in her blog will be something that comes purely from the heart, and that hopefully will bring some joy to her fans.

In her first post, GEM, who shared an old photo of her and her grandmother, talked about how she got her showbiz name, which stands for Get Everybody Moving.

"When I was four, I remember sitting next to my grandma, watching her sing and play the piano. I was being a little girl and just playing random notes on the piano, when she looked at me and said, "You are made for big things, dear. You are going to travel the world one day and inspire millions of people. You are going to change people's lives..." I didn't fully understand it. Well, I was a kid.

"[...] As most of you know, G.E.M. stands for 'Get Everybody Moving' which is the mantra I live by?-?and not just in terms of my music. While nothing fills my heart with joy more than seeing my fans bobbing up and down in the crowd as they move to my beat, I want to get people moving by helping them reach their dreams and chase their goals. I want to show them how to put themselves first in all things?-?starting with health, and self-love?-?and show them how to not let criticism pull them down. I want to prove to them that it's possible to re-write their own stories by constantly rewriting mine."

GEM said that while she is lucky to be able to travel a lot and meet new people, being a part of showbiz isn't always a great experience, as she would often get hit by negative rumours and bad comments. However, she is fortunate that God picked her up and she was able to rise above from her struggles.

"He showed me that life is about more than just myself?-?he made me realize that I was created for a greater purpose. We all want to be heard and be understood. So now, when I create my music and work tirelessly to do so, I know that I'm not only doing it for myself but for the people who have been loving and supporting me. I've also realized stars couldn't shine without darkness. I no longer want to be just a celebrity in people's eyes. I want to be a living testimony."

"Now that I look back, the most important thing about what my grandma said to me was that no matter what I chose to do with my life, it needs to positively impact others. I have developed this conviction to do more with my influence on a bigger scale, more for my fans whom I love and adore, more for society and hopefully make this world a slightly better place," she added.
