GEM Tang calls it quits on Hummingbird Music

12 Mar – Hong Kong pop star GEM Tang surprised many recently when she announced that she has requested early contract termination from her agency, Hummingbird Music.

GEM, who shared the news on her official Facebook page, said that it was not a decision that was made abruptly, as she had deliberated on it and discussed it with her lawyer for several months.

The singer claimed that her decision was due to the company severely breaching contract terms and getting her jobs without her consent. She added that while she has given Hummingbird Music a lot of chances, the company continued to violate her rights.

She wrote, "In my life, besides my father, you two were the men I trusted the most. It's a pity that it has come to this. For the past few years, I have tried again and again to adjust my mindset while facing these unfair situations. Time and time again I wiped my tears and reminded myself to stay peaceful and endure it to the best of my ability. [...] I knew deep inside that I'd really tried my best."

GEM said that while they have hired a mediator to resolve the issue, the company refused to respect her wishes and continued to announce new dates for her tour.

"My lawyer had asked me to consider legal action multiple times. There were times that I felt angry enough to do it, but I still gave them a second chance, because I believed there could still be a peaceful resolution. It wasn't until today when I've reached my limit."

However, though she is no longer a part of the company, GEM assured that she will continue performing at the upcoming eight shows that have been already sold, as well as the announced dates, for the sake of her fans.

"I am willing to continue the last eight shows of my concert because I want to reduce the amount of damage as much as possible," she added.
