Gao Yuanyuan: Johnnie To waited five months for me

21 Nov – Gao Yuanyuan recently admitted that she is thankful for Hong Kong director Johnnie To, who gave her a chance to star in the hit 2011 movie, "Don't Go Breaking My Heart".

As reported on Epoch Times, the actress, who sat down for an interview recently, shared that she originally turned down the project when it first came to her as she was busy taking care of her ailing mother, whom she said has been ill since 2005.

However, the director was so moved by her filial piety to her mother that he waited for her for five months before starting production on the movie.

"Five years later, when he was making [the sequel], I was still taking care of my mother. I almost couldn't do it. But he waited for me that time as well," she added.

It is noted that Gao's love for her mother was also one of the reasons why husband Mark Chao fell for her.

In a previous interview, the actor told the media that he was most impressed by Gao's "kindness, lack of pretense and filial piety".
