After a grueling filming and promotional campaign for the final season of Game of Thrones, the New York Post has reported that Kit Harington has checked into a luxury rehabilitation facility for stress and alcohol use.

The actor, who played Jon Snow through all eight seasons of Thrones, entered the facility a month ago, well ahead of the May 19 finale. A statement from his publicist, initially reported by Entertainment Weekly, reads in part, "Kit has decided to utilize this break in his schedule as an opportunity to spend some time at a wellness retreat to work on some personal issues." According to additional reporting from the Post, the publication also noted that the actor has taken this time to practice mindfulness and psychological coaching to help alleviate the stress he had going into the facility.

Harington sat down with Esquire prior to the season premiere to discuss the final few episodes, sharing the difficulty that came along with wrapping his long tenure as the de facto Stark son. "The weirdest bit was when we came off set and they started taking the costume off and it felt like being skinned," the actor said. "It felt like they were unceremoniously, for the last time, ripping off this character. I was still blubbering my tears."

The Post also notes that Harington's wife and fellow Game of Thrones costar, Rose Leslie, has been "extremely supportive" of Harington's decision to spend time away. The finale of Game of Thrones drew in 19.3 million viewers, and the show boasted a fanbase unlike any other in recent memory. Harington spent nearly a decade playing Jon Snow on the HBO drama, noting about those final moments as Snow, "There was something about the costume being taken off me that was like, Oh, I don’t get to be him anymore. And I love him. I loved being him."
