(G)I-DLE squashes disbandment rumours as members announce contract renewal with Cube

2 Dec - Cube Entertainment can now breathe a sigh of relief, as one of their biggest girl groups, (G)I-DLE announced that they are renewing their contracts.

The news was announced by the group of five on 30 November as they accepted one of Melon Music Awards' Grand Prize title, Record of the Year at the INSPIRE Arena in Incheon.

Jeon So-yeon, who went up on stage with fellow members Miyeon, Minnie, Yuqi, and Shuhua, expressed, "There were a lot of articles saying that (G)I-DLE would disband or end because my contract ended, but it's not just me, all five of us have decided to renew our contracts," she said.

So-yeon then added that she and the members have spoken up before they went on stage and agreed that they will continue to be together next year and many years after.

"I hope you don't worry. We'll repay you with good music next year too," she added.

It is noted that K-pop is known for its "seven-year curse", whereby a group will disband after seven years. This is mainly due to the fact that seven years is the standard length of an idol/group contract.
