Frank Oz hints Yoda may return in Star Wars: The Last Jedi
Seen the last of him we might not have. Possibly.
Frank Oz â film director, Muppets legend, and the voice of âStar Warsâ icon Yoda â has been asked about rumours that the character may yet return in âStar Wars: The Last Jedi,â or other future films in the franchise⌠and while he doesnât confirm it, he doesnât deny it either.
Quizzed on the matter by Variety, 72-year old Oz replies, âI feel like Iâm a prisoner at war here, and I can only give you my name, rank and serial number. To be true to the people who asked me, and they are kind of my family, I have to say Iâve been asked not to talk about it.
âI love Yoda. I would be happy to talk to you about it at the time they let me.â
Now, for all we know the top brass at Lucasfilm may have asked Jar-Jar Binks actor Ahmed Best to say much the same thing if asked about his character coming back â but thatâs not to say itâs definitely going to happen.
Even so, given how the Jedi have been shown to have that knack for returning as shiny ghosts, a reappearance from Yoda in the near future certainly doesnât seem outside the realm of possibility.
Oz has voiced Yoda in every âStar Warsâ movie aside from the 1977 original â and yes, that does include âThe Force Awakens,â in which he did some uncredited voice work, much like Ewan McGregor did as Obi-Wan Kenobi. Oz has also lent his vocal talents to a number of âStar Warsâ shorts and TV specials, and most recently some episodes of TV cartoon series âStar Wars Rebels.â
With or without Yoda, âStar Wars: The Last Jediâ will open in UK cinemas on 15 December.
