Forbes names The Rock as highest-paid actor 2016

26 Aug – With so many movie deals on his plate, is it any wonder that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is officially the highest-paid actor of 2016?

Johnson leads the Forbes list, knocking off "Iron Man" star Robert Downey Jr. off the top spot by earning USD64.5 million in the last 12 months.

"I've had a good career so far. We all just gotta keep puttin' in that work," Johnson posted on his Twitter account following Forbes' release of the list.

The professional-wrestler-turned-actor started dabbling in acting since the early 2000s, landing his first lead role in 2002's "The Scorpion King". He has since proven to be a star not just in the ring but also on the silver screen.

One of his most prominent on-screen persona is, of course, Luke Hobbs in the "Fast and Furious" franchise. He's done work in various genres, including adventure ("Journey 2: The Mysterious Island", 2012), action ("San Andreas", 2015), comedy ("Central Intelligence", 2016) and animation ("Moana", 2016).

Rounding up the top five spots in The World's Highest-Paid Actors 2016 list are action star Jackie Chan, who made USD61 million mostly thanks to his movies in China; Matt Damon, earning his USD55 million mainly from the success of 2015's "The Martian"; Tom Cruise, the "Mission Impossible" star with his USD53 million; and Johnny Depp, who most argue is slowly losing his 'Deppth' but still manages to make USD48 million.

Ben Affleck, or Batfleck if you will, missed the top five spot by USD5 million, earning USD43 million, though this still leaves quite a gap between him seventh placer, Vin Diesel, who made USD35 million.

Former top ranker Downey Jr. has gone all the way down to the eighth spot, with his USD33 million earning which results in a tie with Bollywood star Shan Rukh Khan.

Another Bollywood star, Akshay Kumar ties with Brad Pitt, both earning USD31.5 million.
