Florence Pugh's Met Gala debut was never going to disappoint, and true to form the actress stopped us in our tracks. Debuting a newly shaved head, the Don't Worry Darling star crowned her buzzcut with a towering feathered headpiece, part of her dramatic monochromatic ensemble designed by Valentino – the fashion house for whom she was last week announced as an ambassador.

While the 2023 Met Gala was the first time Pugh's shaved head was showcased publicly, it actually wasn't cut for the red carpet. During an interview, Pugh shared that the 'do was for her upcoming Dune movie, We Live In Time. She said: "I thought, what is a better way than to release it at The Met with Pier Paolo" [Piccioli] – Valentino's creative director. "I've been keeping it under wraps for about three weeks now".

And she did a very good job of doing so. Just three days ago, at the re-opening of Tiffany & Co.'s New York City flagship, the actress turned heads with a Scarface-esque long blonde bob with a brow-grazing fringe. As with last night's Met Gala, her longtime hairstylist, Peter Lux, was on glam, and we imagine he was behind the cut itself.

Pugh's make-up at the Met Gala, by esteemed artist Alex Babsky, was sponsored by Valentino Beauty. As he revealed on Instagram, the actress' intense smoky eyes were achieved using the brand's Twin Liner in Black and Nero, the Color Flip 8 Colours Multi-Look eye palette, and Magnificent Mascara, framed by her brows enhanced by the excellent Brow Trio in Taupe 01. Her lips showcased the new Liquirosso lip colour in shade 115R, a pinky-nude, which balanced the dark eyes beautifully.

Cool-toned make-up was very much a theme of the night, with many famous faces wearing monochromatic palettes in honour of the legendary designer Karl Lagerfeld who was known for his black-and-white wardrobe and silver hair. The Met Gala theme, celebrating the visionary, paid tribute to his genius while celebrating his life's work in fashion.
