First trailer for Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence 'space romance' Passengers

The ‘romantic space thriller’ is not generally a well serviced genre.

Remedying this is 'Passengers’, the forthcoming sci-fi action romance starring Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt, and this is the first look.

Helmed by Morten Tyldum, he of 'The Imitation Game’ fame, and written by 'Prometheus’ and 'Doctor Strange’ scribe Jon Spaihts, it follows Pratt and Lawrence’s Jim and Aurora on the Starship Avalon.

Transporting 5000 people to a colony planet on a 120-year voyage, a malfunction causes two of the stasis chambers to open, with 90 years left of the journey to go.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, peril then ensues.

The movie has been doing the rounds after the script made it onto the 'Black List’, the annual list of the best unmade screenplays, back in 2007.

Keanu Reeves and Reece Witherspoon were in the frame for the leads at one time, with Harvey Weinstein planning to make it.

Sony then bought the rights in 2014, and have spent a reported $120 million bringing it to the screen.

Also starring Michael Sheen as the android Arthur, Laurence Fishburne and Andy Garcia, the movie is due out on December 23.
