Excitement is in the air as the luxury house unveils its first lipstick collection, Rouge Hermès from Hermès Beauty, a collaborative creation under the aegis of Pierre-Alexis Dumas, the artistic director of Hermès. It’s the house’s first foray into cosmetics, and Hermès Beauty will reveal other beauty products every six months from September 2020 until a complete line of make-up is created.

But back to Rouge Hermès: there are 24 shades inspired by the metiers of silk, and the range shares the same aesthetic of function as all Hermès objects.

At the first few swatches, the colours come off intense in a double stroke, and you can choose from a matte or satin finish. You can also get a whiff of the signature scent, which was custom-blended by Christine Nagel, the nose at Hermès. When you whirl the lipstick back into its casing, you can hear the instant magnetic click. The house’s emblem is engraved at the top of the lipstick’s casing, giving it an element of surprise and luxury.

The lipstick’s packaging is assembled by hand, and is made from materials like lacquered, brushed and polished metal in black, white or permabrass. A nice sustainable touch is that the lipstick is refillable.

“Our approach to beauty is fundamental. It is to reveal and highlight what is naturally there, with elegance, comfort and pleasure. I like the idea of Hermès as an intimate companion, revealing one’s deepest self. I associate Hermès’ beauty objects with self-fulfilment, with the colour of an individual’s personality,” asserts Dumas.

The Rouge Hermès lipstick costs S$103 each, whilst the Spring-Summer 2020 limited edition collection costs S$111 and makes for a gorgeous collector’s item.

Other beauty objects accompanying the lipstick: a lip care balm (S$103), Poppy lip shine (S$103), a universal lip pencil (S$57), and a lip brush (S$120) in lacquered wood. Leather accessories that accompany the collection include a lipstick case with mirror (S$790), pop-up lipstick case (S$3,050) and a mirror accessory (S$1,100).

The Rouge Hermès collection will be available from today onwards in selected Hermès stores and retail outlets in 35 countries as well as online. But hurry, as we noticed many colours have already sold out.
