First Japan Rail Cafe In Singapore Where You Can Get Your Japan Railway Passes
Japan Rail Cafe is the first cafe to land in Singapore that sells real Japan railway passes!
Amidst all the excitement, Japan Rail Cafe opened with a bang on 3 December 2017 for a media preview. Operated by East japan Railway Company, this is a one-of-a-kind cafe that would not only spark interest amongst many Japan-goers but also make it more convenient to purchase railway passes here directly.
The East Japan Railway Company was first founded on 1st April 1987 with over 58,550 employees. It is a really big company with businesses in transportation, station space and retails.
Consumers can come in to purchase railway passes, dine in or do a quick shopping here.
There are several retail items such as clothes, food and handbags that change monthly depending on the season too.

The Japan Rail Cafe is meant to be community-based, bridging the gap between Japan lovers in Singapore and Japan and as a platform for Singaporeans to share their travel stories from Japan.
Japan Rail Cafe is also not called a cafe for nothing — they sell a wide range of food like salad, burgers, sandwiches and rice alongside coffees and teas.
We had the Kaisen Avocado Don ($18) to start with. It was a pleasant bowl of multi grain rice topped with a mountain of salmon, Aomori scallops, Ikura and diced avocado.
There are two ways of eating it — you may either eat it directly from the rice bowl or pour in the dashi or miso soup on the side to savour it as an ochazuke!
The ingredients were really fresh and tasty. The salmon sashimi was tender and mildly sweet from the lemon-flavoured soy sauce, the best part of the dish was the fleshy scallop that was juicy and succulent.
We also tried the Watashino Curry Rice ($18) which allowed you to customise one main and one side dish from a total of six items. The curry sauce was da-bomb with a very thick black pepper base blended with various spices. You could actually taste the bits of beef patty within, and the use of chicken broth to create the sauce made it even more flavourful.
The Ultimate A.B.C Burger ($22) is another signature dish. Coined as the King of Burgers, it consisted of avocado, bacon and oozy cheddar cheese! In between the layer was a 160g Wagyu beef patty cooked medium well. The meat was well marinated and cooked to perfection as the inside remained moist.
How can we leave without trying their drinks too! On the menu, there is the Uji-Maccha Latte ($6.20), seasonal iced fruit tea ($6.20) and craft beers such as Yonayona ($13) and Red Miso Lager ($14).
I particularly enjoyed the La France Pear Fruit Tea ($6.20), which is infused with peach purée, not too sweet and pleasant to drink in a hot weather.
Japan Rail Cafe is an interesting cafe worth checking out. You can now purchase your railway passes here without having to go all the way to Japan to get it. The food is decent too, especially the Kaisen Avocado Don and Ultimate A.B.C Burger which are worth going back for.
