Inspired by the historical significance of BBB as the birthplace of some of Singapore’s first schools, including St. Joseph’s Institution and Tao Nan School, the theme of this year’s festival explores the Art of Play. Illuminating the precinct’s rich educational history are engaging and immersive artworks that dive deep into the concept of play and childhood.

Unlike previous years, festival-goers will have an additional weekend to explore offerings throughout the area, coupled with the activation of new spots within BBB including GR.iD.

Organised by the National Heritage Board and sponsored by Samsung Singapore, this year’s festival has over 50 programmes. These include projection mapping installations, performances, Festival Villages, Night Lights installations as well as partner programmes.

Entry is mostly free, although you’ll have to pay to be admitted to the ticketed events.

Check out these event highlights.

Go back in time with this year’s main act Wonder World – The Machine of Nolstagia, and bask in the old-school vibes of traditional theme parks in Singapore from the 1950s.

The brainchild of artist SKL0, the amusement park experience at Cathay Green is a must-visit. There will be theme park rides, game booths, retro-themed food and a wrestling act.

Early-bird tickets for the event are on sale from 17 Jul to 15 Aug for S$20. Standard tickets are priced at S$25 from 16 Aug to 7 Sep. The first 100 event-goers who use Samsung Pay will get a 20 percent discount for tickets bought (S$20) at the venue.

2. Projection-Mapping

Singapore Night Festival 2024 will see projection mapping installations returning. These are a festival staple showcasing a blend of nostalgia, imagination and creativity.

The Peranakan Museum will host a projection mapping artwork for the festival for the first time. Featuring a co-created piece by regional artists and global collectives, Between Threads is inspired by the museum’s collection. Its items include textiles and artefacts.

3. Night Lights Installations

Night Lights will once again transform everyday spaces around BBB with 10 luminous installations. At Stamford Arts Centre, The Happiest Days of Our Lives by artist Rizman Putra, showcases images from the early 60s-90s coupled with vintage illustrations.
