Feng Xiaogang says actors today are "too feminine"

23 Jun - Known for being very straightforward with his opinions, Feng Xiaogang recently sparked criticisms from many by blasting male actors of today for looking "too feminine".

As reported on Tencent, the filmmaker, who appeared as a guest at a forum held by the Shanghai International Film Festival recently, shared that these new young actors seemed to only exist to be the cover on a magazine.

"I personally don't get why they have such a huge appeal. All we see is those overly edited images of them," he said.

Feng expressed hopes that the new generation of male actors can be more manly and versatile.

In addition to expressing his distaste with "feminine" actors, Feng also expressed his frustration with moviegoers who choose to watch "crap movies" than good ones.

"If Chinese people stop watching them, they won't be produced anymore. But somehow, these crap movies make more money than others," he said.

While some Netizens supported Feng's opinion, others criticised him for his statement.

"Man shouldn't be too pretty? Should they all look like Feng Xiaogang, then?," said one commenter.

"I paid good money to watch his movies before, which turned out to be bad. And now he is calling me out for watching crap movies?," said another.
