Fann Wong, Sharon Hsu share #520 love wishes
You might have seen friends and celebrities posting photos of themselves with their significant others on social media yesterday (20 May) with the hashtag #520. You might wonder, what is so special about 20 May?
Writing 20 May in numerals will give you 520, which, when spoken in Chinese (wu er ling), sounds similar to “I love you” (wo ai ni). First started as a shorthand for I love you amongst lovers, 520 has since become an unofficial Valentine’s Day for the Chinese. Yahoo Lifestyle SEA rounds up some of the #520 posts written by local and overseas celebrities to their other half, as well as some dedicating to their fans.
1) Fann Wong
With a photo of her husband Christopher Lee and their son Zed on a yacht, Fann Wong captioned her post with a simple “520” and topped it off with a red heart emoji.
2) Tay Kewei
Local singer Tay Kewei hashtagged 520 and posted a photo with husband Alfred Sim with a caption on missing “those carefree twosome days sometimes”. Being parents to two young children, Tay wrote, “I love my kids so much, but I always want to remember that it started with just *us* first.”

3) Sharon Hsu
Taiwanese actress and singer Sharon Hsu announced her engagement to actor Edison Wang, six years her junior, on 20 May. Hsu had captioned her post “I do~~~ Let’s walk on together #520”, and Wang posted a similar photo on his Instagram, captioning, “Thank you for appearing in my life, giving me a more complete life.” Hsu was previously married to B.A.D. Alex Tien in 2009 and divorced in 2012.
4) Shawn Yue
Posting on his Weibo on 520, Hong Kong actor Shawn Yue shared four photos with wife, Sarah Wang, captioning his post with “Love you”. Married in 2017, the couple has a son and a daughter.
5) Ariel Lin
Recently plagued by rumours of her marriage on the rocks, Taiwanese actress Ariel Lin posted a series of scenic photos for 520, including one showing her face. “A day that seemed special, but nevertheless, as normal as the day that has passed, though unfortunately, because of the pandemic, nothing is normal anymore,” she wrote.
Without explicitly mentioning husband Charles Lin in her 520 post, Lin captioned, “520, I love you, this love, can be to lover, family, friends, and also to the nature that nurtures us.”
6) Lee Teng
Television host Lee Teng dedicated his post to wife Gina Lin, posting a photo of her and captioning in Chinese, “The you in my eyes 520”. The pair, who had been dating since October 2018, registered their marriage in June 2020 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Lin also dedicated a post to Lee with two photos of him holding a vase of hydrangeas.
7) Elvin Ng
Actor Elvin Ng took to his official Facebook page to post a video collage of him posing with various heart signs, dedicating the day to his fans. Ng had captioned the post with a simple red heart emoji and hashtags #520 and #5201314, with the latter meaning “I love you for an eternity”.
8) Romeo Tan
On actor Romeo Tan’s official Facebook fan page managed by Tan and a few admins, a video collage was posted on 520 showing the actor signing 5, 2, 0, followed with a heart and various photos of Tan in his dramas.
Dedicating the video to his fans, "520 (wǔ èr líng) = 我爱你 (wǒ ài nǐ) “I love you.” Today is the day to remind ourselves to love and be loved. Hugs everyone."
