Fan launches petition for Quentin Tarantino to direct Deadpool 2
Film fandom was shocked this weekend by the unexpected departure of ‘Deadpool’ director Tim Miller from the upcoming sequel – but one enterprising fan has a bold suggestion for a replacement.
A petition has been launched on Change.org for Ryan Reynolds to hire none other than Quentin Tarantino as Miller’s replacement on ‘Deadpool 2.’

The petition’s creator, Carl Champion Jr, argues “If there was ever a chance to see Tarantino do a project almost guaranteed to make a billion dollars, this is it.
“We got a great taste of what this could be like in Kill Bill, but imagine having a guy like Tarantino write dialogue for The Merc with the Mouth! It would be so glorious. Join me!”
Seeking 1,000 signatures, at the time of writing over 850 fans have added their name to the petition.
It’s an intriguing ‘what if’ scenario – even if we’d bet everything from a diddle-eyed Joe, to a damned-if-I-know that it will never happen.
First of all, the petition is being presented to actor/star Ryan Reynolds rather than studio 20th Century Fox – and, as powerful a figure in the ‘Deadpool’ series as Reynolds may be, we’d rather expect the studio to have a little more say.
Secondly, there’s absolutely no indication that Tarantino would want the job, nor any precedent for him taking on such projects. Tarantino has never taken on director for hire jobs, only ever directing films he has written himself; and with the exception of 1997’s ‘Jackie Brown’ which was an adaptation of Elmore Leonard’s novel ‘Rum Punch,’ all his films were stories and characters of his own creation (although ‘Django Unchained’ connected loosely to Italy’s earlier ‘Django’ series).
The other key flaw in the petition is the idea of hiring Tarantino to ‘write dialogue for the Merc with the Mouth’ – as it’s only director Tim Miller who has left the film, not screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.
Tarantino is right now said to be in heavy research on a project (not necessarily a feature film) on the subject of the 1970s American film industry, and has long since declared that he intends to retire as a director once he makes his tenth movie; his most recent, ‘The Hateful Eight,’ was his eighth.
So we wouldn’t hold our breath for a Tarantino-directed ‘Deadpool 2’ – even if we’ve no doubt it would be a tasty burger.
‘Deadpool 2’ is provisionally set to hit cinemas January 2018.
