Fan Bingbing to sue business tycoon for defamation
17 Jul - Chinese actress Fan Bingbing has recently declared that she is suing business tycoon Guo Wengui for spreading malicious rumours about her.
As reported on Tencent, the actress expressed her fury following Guo's statement on YouTube last month, saying that several female celebrities, including the "I am Not Madame Bovary" star, have had sexual relationship with 68-year-old Politburo Standing Committee, Wang Qishan.
In a statement released by Fan's studio, it declared that Guo's accusation is a malicious defamation and a serious violation, and demanded the halting of all false information.
It also stated that Fan has the right to take legal action, and that they are hiring a US-based law firm, Lavely & Singer, to start legal proceedings against the businessman.
Fan is not the only actress who is using legal means to combat Guo. Another actress, Xu Qing, is also planning to sue Guo for similar accusation.
This isn't the first time Guo became a subject of controversy, after he decided to spill out supposed information about alleged corrupt Chinese politicians, businessmen and other elites. He is currently living in exile in Manhattan, New York.
