Fan Bing Bing wants a breakthrough with "I Am Not Madame Bovary"

31 Jul - Fan Bing Bing has received the stamp of approval from director Feng Xiaogang and her co-star, veteran actor Zhang Guoli, for her portrayal of a desperate village woman in Feng's new movie, "I Am Not Madame Bovary".

As reported on Liberty Times News, the actress, who joined the cast at the press conference held in Beijing to promote the movie, revealed that she only received the script ten days before shooting began.

"I read the script until five in the morning, and thought it was very exciting. But [boyfriend] Li Chen was not home, so there was nobody to discuss it with. In the end I took it because it was very different from what I'm used to," said Fan.

She added, "It may be the time for me to get rid of the shackles for a breakthrough."

Fan stated that for the three months they were in production, she was focused on channeling her character that even her boyfriend was not allowed to come see her.

The actress said that her proudest moment came when she was able to mix in the crowd at a rural market, and wasn't recognised by anyone.

Meanwhile, Zhang Guoli, who was initially against Feng's decision to cast the actress for fear that her glamorous persona would ruin the character, praised Fan for her dedication and admitted that she is closer to becoming a true artist.
