Famous Xian restaurant from London opens 1st Asia outlet in SG
Singapore has gained itself another Xian food gem! Murger Han, a famous Chinese restaurant chain hailing from London, just opened its first Asia outlet in our very own Tanjong Pagar!
Influenced by flavours from Northwest China, Murger Han hopes to share and cultivate an appreciation of authentic Xian cuisine with a wider audience.
The roots of the brand began in Euston, where it first set up shop in 2014. Fast forward 10 years and they now have a total of 4 outlets across London.
Their 5th outlet in Singapore will mark Murger Han’s expansion to Asian shores. Xian-born Li Bin, the founder who lived in the UK for 20 years, did so as a nod to his heritage.
According to him, Singapore was deemed most suitable as much of the population speaks both English and Mandarin, making outreach and communication easier.
Murger Han’s speciality lies in Murgers, roujiamo – the “Chinese hamburger”, said to be the oldest sandwich in the world. The tender, simmered chopped meat kiapped between fluffy, crispy buns makes for a delicious handheld meal.
Classic Lean Pork (S$5.80) and Crusty Cumin Chicken Murger (S$6.50) are 2 of the 6 on the menu. While the Classic Lean Pork Murger uses a flatbread, the latter is made with flaky, pastry-like buns.
Another of Murger Han’s speciality dishes is the traditional Cold Steamed Rice Noodles with Vegetables (S$6.50). It is said that cold noodles were created as a tribute to Emperor Qin Shi Huang during a period of drought.
The Hand-Pulled Biang Biang Noodles, named after the sound of dough hitting the table during the crafting process, come in several variations. That includes Braised Pork and Vegetables (S$9.80) and 5-in-1 Noodles (S$12.80).
The 5-in-1 contains tomato egg sauce, chilli oil, spring onions and a stir-fried vegetable base. For protein, you can select 2 from the 4 choices of meat they provide such as pork and beef.
