Family confirmed rumours of Barbie Hsu's passing
3 Feb - Barbie Hsu has passed away in a shocking revelation from her family amid rumours that many originally thought was a death hoax.
On 3 February, sister Dee Hsu confirmed the news via her agent, saying, "Our whole family came to Japan for a trip, and my dearest and most kind-hearted sister Barbie Hsu died of influenza-induced pneumonia and unfortunately left us."
"I was grateful to be her sister in this life and that we got to care for and spend time with each other. I will always be grateful to her and miss her," she added
It was reported that Barbie will be honoured with a cremation ceremony in Japan, after which her remains will be brought home to Taiwan for final rest.
The actress would have been celebrating her third wedding anniversary with husband, South Korean entertainer DJ Koo in five days. The two former first love reunited after more than 20 years and tied the knot in 2022 following her divorce from ex-husband Wang Xiaofei.
Known most to global fans for playing the role of Shan Chai in the hit drama, "Meteor Garden", Barbie was a mother of two children from her first marriage.
Prior to the news, rumours of her passing spread online, with many casting doubt about its legitimacy.
She was 48.
