Famed Simon Road Hokkien Mee relocated to Kovan 209 Market and Food Centre from 1 Jun 2023
From 1 Jun 2023, Simon Road Hokkien Mee has officially relocated their flagship outlet to Kovan 209 Market and Food Centre.
With most hawker stall relocations, business owners and regular patrons from the neighbourhood express a general sense of sadness. However, I was pleasantly surprised when the team from Simon Road Hokkien Mee announced their relocation with positivity and enthusiasm!
With the intention of ‘creating new memories’, the team shared their excitement regarding the move through multiple Facebook posts. They are also ensuring that despite the changes, their flavourful plates of Fried Hokkien Mee (S$5/8/10) remains consistent.
Known for their generous portions of this seafood-heavy noodle dish, Simon Road Hokkien Mee lets customers request drier or wetter versions. The latter is made with more seafood umami broth.
Ingredients-wise, whole prawns and squid rings are thrown in with pork belly slices. Topping the heaping pile of noodles is freshly squeezed lime juice for some acidity to cut through the slightly greasy food.
There are 2 components of this dish that one must never leave without. First, load up on their free flow crispy pork lard. Second, pair your seafood noodles with not 1 but 2 housemade chilli pastes.
A sweet sambal caters to those who enjoy just a hint of spice. For spice lovers, I would recommend the bright red chilli dip which tastes super spicy and tangy due to the use of lime juice.
Those looking for even larger portions should order their Lala Crayfish Fried Hokkien Mee (S$15) featuring plump clams alongside large succulent crayfish. Otherwise, splurge S$25 on the Signature Seafood Fried Hokkien Mee and indulge in the best of both worlds. The ingredients are prawns, squid rings, pork belly, lala clams and crayfish. After all, it’s go big or go home, right?
Take this opportunity to check out the revamped stall and dishes offered by Simon Road Hokkien Mee; I hear there long queues are already forming during peak hours!
