Bird Box Barcelona just dropped on Netflix and it’s one to watch the next time you’re keen for an apocalyptic horror movie to make you jump.
The spin-off to 2018’s Bird Box sees Sebastián and his daughter, Anna, try to survive in the desolate streets of Barcelona after a mysterious force wipes out most of the population.

Bird Box Barcelona timeline explained
So, the first Bird Box film is set across two timelines. One is after the creatures first attack and the other is five years later when Malorie (Sandra Bullock) and the two children are trying to survive.
The film ends with Malorie and the children finding shelter and safety at a community at a former school for blind people, but this isn’t where Bird Box Barcelona begins. Instead, it is a spin-off which takes place simultaneously to the older timeline in the original film.
So, it opens nine months after the attacks and follows Sebastián and Anna trying to find safety in Barcelona. Plus, like the first film, it cuts between this present timeline and nine months earlier.
This means that Bird Box Barcelona finishes over four years before Bird Box ends, which is why Malorie isn't in the new movie. Also, the ending of the film teases further, exciting spin-offs in the Bird Box universe.
