Expendables 4 IS Happening After All

Just when you thought we may not see another muscle-bound outing with Sly and the gang, it seems we will be getting a fourth ‘Expendables’ movie.

According to Variety, a deal has been struck between SP International Pictures and Max Screen Film Distribution which covers distributions rights for the film in China.

It’s therefore believed that some of the movie may be shot in China, but could only be small sections and won’t be enough to class it as a Chinese co-production.

The fourth instalment is due to begin shooting in 2016, with an expected release sometime in 2017.

No director or writer is attached yet, but the production budget is believed to be upwards of $100 million, which is interesting.

The début film back in 2010 made a $274 million dent, but didn’t set the world alight. The sequel took a little more, amassing $305 million.

However, the third, released in 2014, only took $206 million worldwide. This could be down to the fact the film was illegally released online ahead of its cinema date, encouraging people to pirate the film rather than pay to see it in cinemas.

Still, the series hasn’t ever done amazing box office numbers, so it’s a little surprising to hear that another one is being made. Often sequels are greenlit - regardless of critical reception - so long as they’ve made a lot of money, so perhaps the army of action heroes have clubbed together and taken it upon themselves for one final outing.
