From Cosmopolitan

When Ellie Goulding announced her engagement to Caspar Jopling back in summer 2018, the entire internet was immediately like, “Who are you, Caspar? What’s your game, friend?” Or in the immortal words of Gretchen Wieners:

Since then, Ellie and Caspar announced they're expecting a baby together!

Which means the time has come to channel your inner detective and learn more about this Yorkshire-born man—who, FYI, is not related to Casper the Friendly Ghost. #InquiringMindsWantToKnow

First of All, He’s Really Freakin’ Smart

Not only did Caspar go to Eton (where Prince William and Prince Harry went to school), but he also casually went to Harvard and studied the history of art and architecture.

After finishing up his Hahvahd degree, Caspar moved to New York City and started living in a SoHo apartment with Ellie. Ugh, my jealousy is at an all-time high.

He’s Currently Getting His MBA at Oxford

Because attending Harvard simply wasn’t enough, Caspar is currently getting an MBA at Oxford—where he and Ellie spent much of the coronavirus lockdown. “I can’t think of anyone I’d rather be quarantined with, to be honest,” she told Vanity Fair in April 2020. “I think we’re really good at having enough space around us. We have a small cottage, but downstairs we have a tiny cellar, and he’s made it his office and he’s working down there. He emerges every couple of hours to get a tea.”

You love all the deets on celeb news. So do we! Let’s overanalyze them together.

He and Ellie *Didn’t* Experience Love at First Sight

But their love story is still v sweet. To quote Ellie herself in The Guardian:

“It wasn’t love at first sight. It was months of both of us being painfully shy and walking around a few galleries, not saying a single word to each other. There was no drama or arguments. There was no me trying to figure out if he liked me or not and then writing about it and getting drunk about it. It didn’t require the initial dating thing that we all do where we’re waiting for them to call. He just called. It was the thing I’ve been waiting for, but it wasn’t like I was waiting for that scenario—I was waiting for Caspar. He just saw me. He sees me in a way that I’ve always wanted to be seen.”

His Family Is Very POSH

As we learned from his marriage announcement to Ellie, Caspar’s dad is the Honorable Nicholas Jopling of Yorkshire and his mother is Mrs. Jayne Warde-Aldam of Yorkshire. A slightly deeper dive on the internet reveals that Nicholas (Caspar’s pops) is the son of the famous politician Michael Jopling, and his brother is the ultra-famous art dealer Jay Jopling.

And get this: Caspar’s uncle Jay was a big investor in the online auction platform Paddle8, where Princess Eugenie used to work. Which brings us to…

He’s Friends With Princess Eugenie

Eugenie appeared on Caspar’s Insta back in November 2016…

You may remember that Prince Harry dated Ellie Goulding back in 2016, and even after they broke up, she remained tight with the royal circle. Flash-forward to April 2017: Caspar and Ellie reportedly start dating. Now I’m not saying this means Eugenie introduced the two, but I’m not not saying that. Either way, here they are hanging out during a Brooklyn Nets game:

He Row Row Rows the Boat (Sorry)

Caspar rowed crew while at Harvard (he was part of the ~Harvard Heavies~), and look—his photo is even on the wall at Heathrow!

Also, apparently he competed in the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore. Dude takes crew very seriously, mmkay?

He’s an Art Dealer at Sotheby’s

According to LinkedIn, when Caspar’s not getting yet another fancy degree, he works as an Art Consultant and his Instagram page is full of references to auctions and fancy paintings that I can’t afford. (It’s fine! I’m not bitter!)

And Finally, He Calls Ellie by Her Real Name

Aka Elena. Too sweet. Such love. Much jealousy.

THESE TWO!
