Bobs and pixies have ruled hair trends for months, but there’s a new style in town—say hello to the clavicut.

This chic, blunt style is something celebs can’t get enough of. From Charli D’Amelio to Selena Gomez to Gigi Hadid, seemingly every it-girl has embraced this new ‘do—in part for how elegant the look is, but also in part for how versatile it is while still being easy to style and maintain.

This length and shape has been popular off and on for many years thanks to this. “The ease and versatility make this a perfect low maintenance but high impact cut,” says hair stylist, Clara Purvis. “A big part of why this length is so popular for many different hair types is that it can truly be effortless to make the shape look put together.”

We asked stylists everything you need to know about the clavicut cut—read on below to see if this celeb-worthy style could be your next ‘do.

What Is the Clavicut?

The latest red carpet hair trend, this blunt style is defined by its length, falling around the clavicle (aka, your collarbone), giving a shoulder-length look. “Longer than a bob, this cut allows you to wear your hair in a slicked back ponytail/bun or a long-bob,” says celebrity stylist Laura Polko. “Depending how you choose to style your hair, this cut allows you to customize to your liking – edgy and wavy or clean and sleek."

What to Ask Your Stylist For

Clarity is the priority when requesting this style. Your relationship with your stylist is like any other: communication is key. When going to a salon, to get this cut the best way to describe it to your stylist is “a long bob, or lob, which is the same length all around but not angled forward,” says Purvis. And of course be sure to specify the length! Having your hair fall right at the clavicle is essentially to nailing this look.

How to Style the Clavicut

The best part about this look is how easy it is to style! If you want to create soft curls, using a texturizing spray such as Joico’s Beach Shake ($25) in damp hair helps to create effortless waves. After applying, simply go in with your styling tool—we love DigitalAIRE Hot Air Brush ($100)—and gently curl inward to create swooped ends and a wavy, brushed-out look, says Polko.

Looking for a sleeker style? Purvis recommends using a lightweight styling product when the hair is wet, like the Davines Oi Milk ($21), then blow drying the hair using a round brush to create volume and bounce. When it’s dry, be sure to add a hair cream such as Blue Dunes Moonage Haircream ($26) to eliminate any frizz or flyaways and voilà—you’re red carpet ready in no time.
