Ethel Booba renounces Twitter account

13 Apr – Ethel Booba had fans scratching their heads after announcing on Instagram that her official Twitter account is fake.

As reported on Rappler, last week the comedienne posted a screenshot of the Twitter account which uses the handle @IamEthylGabison (her real name), and captioned the post, "Beware of this fake Twitter!"

The said account had since been inaccessible to the public.

It is noted that Ethel had never publicly disowned the account before, and even shared in a television interview last year that she worked with "admins" to manage the account, which had been popular for making witty controversial comments about Philippine politics and other hot topics.

In another interview a year before, she stated, "Every opinion that I post [on Twitter] is thoroughly thought of and brainstormed."

The announcement had since sparked speculations that the actress has been forced to renounce the account following threats from President Duterte's administration - a rumour that has been dismissed by others who believe that the government has no time to silence critics in this current climate.
