Ben and Erin Napier are gearing up for a holiday season full of both longtime traditions and brand-new experiences. Not only is a new season of their HGTV series Home Town set to premiere on December 29, but they plan to take their camper out for a spin and are embracing their favorite holiday decorating activity. We caught up with Erin, who told us all about their plans (and shared photos of their camper!) along with an easy trick for a seasonal home embellishment that anyone can do last-minute.
“We will head to Ben’s parents in our new-to-us camper that was designed to look and feel like a real house,” Erin tells House Beautiful of their family’s holiday plans. “It even has a fireplace I’m excited to get cozy beside.”
They initially bought a Jayco camper from another family who had it designed by Driftless RV Renovators because their Airstream was too tiny for their family to camp in once their second child Mae was born. Now, they've updated the girls' bunk beds and their bedroom so that they can all make more memories camping together. Plus, it's ideal for a four-hour drive and overnight stay when visiting family for the holidays.
When it comes to decorating their stationary house for the festive season, the Napiers love simple, homemade touches. “Ben finds mistletoe in the trees on our farm and the girls tie up little bundles with ribbon and hang them in every doorway of our house,” Erin says. “It’s become our favorite tradition.”
Of course, if you don’t happen to have any mistletoe growing on your property, Erin’s go-to holiday decorating tip is to “get real garland from your local nursery and drape it around the front door,” she says. The easy display is timeless, natural (i.e., there's no need to pack it away for next year!), and smells divine.
While we won’t be getting another Home Town special this year—Erin and Ben surprised their former clients with Christmas gifts last year—there’s still much to look forward to in the upcoming season. “We have so many firsts this season: first time to convert a historic home into a school, first time to build a garden, first time to finish a home we started eight years ago,” Erin says. “We learned so much. We even tore a house down to start over from scratch.”
So while the Napiers are approaching a decade-long run of starring on Home Town, they continue to take on new, thrilling challenges that fans can delight in as we head into the New Year.
